Idli-chuteny this Sunday !!

Anita just took out idli pans from the idli making pressure cooker and my camera got focused on the pans.
This Sunday morning, we all enjoyed the soft spongy idlis and chuteny.
Idli (two Tamil words - "Ittu" and "Avi" (To lay and steam)) is usually served with Chutney or Sambar without which the full taste of the dish cannot be enjoyed. I've got some mouth-watering Idli recipes of all varieties here. Try it as a morning breakfast or an evening snack.

Recipe for programming success

Camera : Sony DSC -S50

I was searching for a good 'c programming' book in a book store. Suddenly I noticed a book : Learn C in 7 days !!!.. Wow !! .. I bought this book. Few days after I analyzed that I could hardly learn few syntax. I couldn't learn much about how to use the syntax, no deep understanding...So what's the point?. Peter Norvig, in his 'Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years' article describes his recipe for programming success. Here are few intersting points:
  • Get interested in programming, and do some because it is fun.
  • Talk to other programmers; read other programs.
  • Program. The best kind of learning is learning by doing.
  • Work on projects with other programmers. Be the best programmer on some projects; be the worst on some others
  • Learn at least a half dozen programming languages.
  • Get involved in a language standardization effort.

It was 10.00 -10.30 am when I took this photo. I was wondering, what these children are doing on the street at this time. They should be found in one of the classes of the school. Are they denied equal access to education, or in some cases, access to any education at all !!.

Promote thinking !!

Camera : Sony DSC -S50

Although today's early childhood educators often focus on enhancing reading and mathematics skills to meet ever increasing academic expectations, we must also remain committed to promoting broader thinking abilities. They are the foundation upon which children learn to make decisions, regulate their own behavior, meet complex challenges, and take responsibility for their actions.

Two drops of life !!

Yesterday was Pulse Polio Vaccination Day. I took my kid to a booth and immunised her with polio drops. One of the volunteers immunised her with OPV and other carrying the marker marked a sign on one of her fingers indicating the registration of polio immunisation dose.
I got some intersting figures from net : There are 68 cases of polio in India while there are 792 polio patients across 16 countries in the world. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of 47 patients while Maharashtra has two patients.

Busy NH4

Mumbai-Bangalore Highway (National Highway-4) by-pass Warje. This point is especially spectacular at night when the long string of street lamps begin to glow. Increasing access of this high way keeps it busy all the time.

Generation next !!!

Camera : Sony DSC -S500

This photo reminds me the book 'Ignited Minds' written by A P J Abdul Kalam, presently the President of India.
This book is highly motivating book for young Indians, as also to anyone interested in understanding the reasons for remaining behind in the march of human civilization. Mr. Kalam talks about the necessity of role models for a child, something which is obviously important.
.... these kids must read this book (.. not now.. but when they go to high school !!)

Safety first !!

But who cares !!
India has a very poor health and safety record. Much legislation exists to protect workers rights and health but they are not implemented properly and only an elite of workers enjoy the benefits. Of the total workforce only 8.8 percent are organised. The workforce is abundant, low skilled and easily available and the high rate of unemployment makes them susceptible to exploitation. Getting work is more important than the hazards involved.

This photo reminds me a thriller super hit Marathi film "Zapatlela" directed by Mahesh Kothare in 1993 which used Ramdas Padhye's puppet as a central character & which actually has the soul of a villain - Tatya Vinchoo (Dilip Prabhavalkar)
This movie was Inspired by Hollywood horror flick "Child's Play"

Pithale Bhakri Kanda !!!

Camera : Sony DSC -S500

Very delicious and popular Maharashtraian recipe

The main Ingredients of 'Pithale' is Gram flour, also known as chana flour or besan is a staple ingredient in Indian cuisine. It consists of ground chana dal also known as Bengal grams in some localities.
Gram flour contains carbohydrates and hence may not be suitable for low-carbohydrate diets, but it is suitable for gluten-free diets.
Bhakri is made from bajri, jowar or maize flour
Jowar/Bajri is the most important crop found in Maharashtra occupying the highest area of 55 lakh hectares with 36 per cent of the total cropped area under this crop. Jowar is grown both in Kharif and Rabi seasons. There is more area in Rabi season (about 32 lakh hectares than in Kharif about 23 lakh hectares). Generally the colour of jowar grains is pearly white and very attractive Bhakari (Bread) prepared for Jowar grains is very tasty and relished by rural people, particularly by the farming community. It is good for health also.

Celebrating Republic Day !!

26th January 1950 is one of the most important days in Indian history as it was on this day the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state. In this day India became a totally republican unit. The country finally realized the dream of Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous freedom fighters who, fought for and sacrificed their lives for the Independence of their country. So, the 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and has been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day of India, ever since.
